I'm a 28yr old female who is ALWAYS sleepy. I've been going to doctors since 2002 to find out why. Instead of sending me to a sleep clinic, I have gotten diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & ADHD.
I have been taking Concerta since 2003 and Zoloft since 2007, and have also been prescribed Strattera, Ritalin, Adderall, Sarafem, Cymbalta over the years (not all at once) If I don't take Concerta in the morning, i have to take frequent naps. I wake up a lot a night feeling refreshed and usually fall right back to sleep. I can't wake up to my 5 alarm clocks since they appear in my dream and have a different meaning for making noise. I often wake up paralyzed in the middle of a nightmare and at work I sometimes go into a daze and dream about something to do with my surroundings. No one ever notices, so I don't think my eyes were closed. Before I was prescribed Concerta, I would fall asleep in class and would wake up after I realized I was dreaming - or when I fell onto the person next to me.
When reading about different sleep disorders, I got interested in about cataplexy. I never knew that was a disorder. I thought it was normal to fall to the ground when scared or go limp when I was being tickeled. My first experience with that feeling was when I was looking over a balcony and my friend touched my shoulder - My legs when limp. If I'm ever up high, I can't stand up straight - I have to lean against something. My friends always grab my neck to see me fall to the ground.
So anyways - My real question is, should I go off the meds before I get tested? Have the meds been masking a sleep disorder all these years?
