I get frustrated and a little scared when I read how many people get misdiagnosed (if indeed you are misdiagnosed). You know where I come from (HMO land) it's not that easy to reschedule follow up appointments. Some doctors try to make you wait quite a while. Add to that the out of pocket expense increase in a lot of policies, and your talking about a great deal of wasted time and money. This also amounts to an increase of physical and mental suffering for the patient. The scarey part is that as time goes by I think we're all getting more and more conditioned to accepting poorer and poored care. When I was first diagnosed I had a two night and one day study. The next time I went for a sleep study, the doctor told me that the insurance companies only allow one night study and that the first night study used to be largely disregarded because they knew that people had some difficulty with sleeping in a strange setting the first night. So now what used to be largely disregarded is the patients primary night study. Where are the patient's rights?!
