Most doctors did not receive any education concerning sleep disorders during med school. So you really need to get a referral to a sleep doc.

You should talk to a sleep specialist in you area who will have access to your medical records, meds you are on, can look at the anatomy of your airway, etc. Sometimes a breathing disorder can precipitate what you are experiencing.

It may be helpful to take the sleep test on this site. Not perfect but can give you some ammunition when asking for a referral.
