Can you get another doctor? I know that a lot of HMO's try to put roadblocks to prevent patients from seeing specialists. Maybe this is what your doctor is trying to do. Either that or he is not very informed. Both scenarios are unacceptable. Keep fighting. Don't let the doctor rush you out of the room. Tell them (tactfully) your not satisfied with their understanding of what's wrong. Tell them about narcolepsy and what you know about it. Ask them why it sounds like narcolepsy but he/she does not mention it as a possibility. Show the doctor how dissatisfied you are with the lack of a definitive diagnosis. Tell the doctor you want an answer soon and make him/her set a definite time (soon) that he/she will visit with you to establish a diagnosis. If you are skeptical declare your skepticism to the doctor and tell him/her why. I can tell you I've been to a lot of doctors and I have run across a lot of flakiness. In that case you got to shake the dust from your sandals and move on to a better one.
