I cannot tell you how much of a relief it is to discover that I haven't been haunted by demons my entire childhood and that the terrorising, panic-stricken hallucinations and paralyses I experienced for years as a child and have recently been experiencing when trying to sleep is in actual fact a common disorder.
For years I've been convinced that I was haunted as a child, and that I had done something wrong to deserve the panic inflicted. I would commonly find myself paralysed in my bed, with the sensation that something was thumping me from beneath the bed (once I remember levitating above it) A woman would often appear from my curtains with red eyes, holding a candle and I'd hear noises trying to shush me. Though she never approached me, she seemed to be of evil origin. All the time this was happening, I knew the only way escape this horror was to try and make a noise. When you are paralysed, this isn't easy, but the moment I could just about force out a squeak, it would end, and I'd sprint into my parents bedroom and relay the "ghost story" shaking like a leaf.
This hadn't happened me for over twelve years until last year. I've just had three vivid hallucinations reminiscent of my childhood which prompted me to get on my computer and see if anyone else had ever experienced anything similar. And as it turns out, they have!
I have no diagnosis, but this website and the information I've discovered has given me hope that a) there could be a treatment to stop it from happening, and b) if there isn't,at least I know I'm not alone.
