Hey all,

This has been going on since about Decemember and it's really starting to bother me. I started noticing it while driving at first but it now affects me at all times and all aspects of my life. From the moment I wake up in the morning until I go to bed, I feel like I'm in a constant cloud, or otherwise detached from the world. It isn't an emotional feeling, it is very physical and very real. When talking with people, I have to try extra hard to listen and comprehend what they're talking about which is starting to affect my work quality. There are many times while driving that I feel very faint or just about to fall asleep, and it feels like a constant fight. I have never actually fallen asleep accidentally, though it feels like I'm always on the edge.

It's very hard to describe the feeling to other without feeling like an idiot. I've got to my doctor about the issue, but she had no idea and didn't know where to start. It's not an issue that very apparent to others, I try very hard to not show anything or tell anybody when it's especially bad (it is better at times, but very bad other times). I usually just sit quietly and go and lay down when I'm feeling especially faint.

Sometimes, very randomly, I get up and feel very weak (just like before fainting) but nothing every truely happens. I just go and sit down and wait for it to pass.

I've been reading about narcolepsy and cataplexy, and while my symptoms seem similar to cataplexy, they don't seem quite as extreme. I don't have attacks of extreme weakness and I never actually have lost consciousness from this.

I also don't have any trouble staying asleep, although it does usually take me longer than what I consider normal to fall asleep. I get a full 8 hours or more almost every night and eat a breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Any ideas or help? I got to this forum is the first place by googling "disconnected feeling" and this website is the first result. You have no idea how good of feeling it is read other posts describing the EXACT same feelings I'm experiencing. It's as if somebody ripped the issue from my body and placed it in print.

Thanks!
