Posted by SleepSpell on August 04, 2008 at 12:40:47:Im a disabled veteran discharged from the navy for narcolypse obviously. I remember when I was about 4 years old my dad hit me so hard I blanked out (remember seeing blue light that looked almost like lighting). Since then I suffered from horrible migraine headaches. They were like a nightmare. I use to scream to the top of my lungs for hours. My mom took me to the hospital and the doctors ran a cat scan but could not find nothing. When I was about 13 years old my migraine mysteriously vanished...Thank God. However once I hit 15 I started getting daytime sleep spells. I thought I was not getting normal sleep at night. My parents thought I was just lazy kicked me out the house at 17 years old. I couldnt argue to much because I did play around alot, and got bad grades in high school. So I moved with my brother, got a job, and took night class to graduate. I luckly graduated on time and so my parents let me move back in. I soon lost my job and began sleeping alot during the day; my parents, again, was at the point of putting me out. It got so bad that I decided to join the navy so i wouldnt become homeless. When joining the military I made the mistake of telling them I had daytime sleepiness. So all while I was on active duty I was being tested for sleep disorders. In boot camp I was made fun of my RDCs cause I feel asleep too much (I even slept while marching to the galley). Once I got to my military A school, I was finally given a sleep lab test. Since I hit my rem state in less then 50secs after I fell asleep on every sleep session, I was diagnosed narcolyspe and was discharged from the navy (and I just went to sleep during this sentence). I was told by the veterans department to apply for SSI and Disability because since I had this problem before entering the military, I was not in the military long enough and since the military did not make it worst, I could not recieve disabilty benifits from them. So I applied for SSI and Disability and was denied because they wanted proof I still had this disabity, even though my military doctor said it was a lifelong condition and it will only get worst in time. So I been struggling from job to job, been homeless and sleep in my car through cold winter nights, til I saved up enough money for another sleep study test. Again I was diagnose narcolypse and the results were even worst. I luckyly was able to move back in with my parents after I loss my car. And I am now again applying for SSI and Disabilty. I, however, am jobless and is trying to work partime so I dont become homeless again before I my claim finish processing. If anyone know of any part time work in the 46403 area (for disabled people with narcolypse) please send.
Oh and just a theroy of mines, but i think computer monitors can cause daytime sleepiness or sleep spells to become worst for people with narcolypse...or a least for me.
