SleepSpell!!! That is ludicrous! Narcolepsy is covered under Americans with Disabilities Act. I would not disclose your condition before a hire, but once you are employed mention your condition and ask for(prolly in writing), "reasonable accomadations". Make sure you clearly state what it is you need from them. Do NOT try to be "strong" and say nothing. I am a hairstylist and Before diagnosis, I would fall asleep in the middle of haircuts! Imagine the implications, Lawsuits, not to mention I had sharp instruments. But, after diagnosis, I am honest about what I can do. I know better than to try to "push through". I take a nap. I just put my head down in the break room and as we PWN know, it only takes about 10-15 mins and Im good. My co-workers and bosses understand this and dont disturb or question me. It's not unreasonable because by law you are entitiled to 30 mins for lunch and two 15 min breaks. I am a smoker so I take my fair share of mini breaks, but I compensate my not eating meals. My meds make me not hungry anyway, but I'll bring things like bananas or trail mix that are quick and I can put down if we get customers. My 15 min nap is shorter than the break Im entitled for lunch. You just have to know your rights and use them. When you mention the ADA, most employers dont wanna mess with that. Trust me, I work for a big Corp w/ a legal dept and if they couldve legally fired me, they wouldve because of the possible danger. Sorry this is so long, but it upsets me when I see people being pushed around like this when it is illegal. They will continue to do this unless you stick up for yourself and educate your boss! Good Luck!
