Posted by But If Not on September 03, 2008 at 09:22:40:Hi all. For the last several months I am tired (very tired)till about three in the afternoon every day. Like I just woke up and am still shaking off sleep. I also wake up a lot during the night, etc. I have been content to chalk it up to getting older (I am 45 - male) and have been ignoring it.... However, starting a few weeks ago, many times I laugh or feel strong emotion my legs go very weak. i havent fallen down but have come very close several times. I thought for sure that I was going to collapse right in front of everybody. I kept it to myself as it was such a bizzare problem to have. it didnt even occur to me to research the problem.... Yesterday it happened again and it frightened me a bit as I almost collapsed onto the floor and so I decided to search the web for "laugh, leg, collapse" and holy cow! There it was - Narcolepsy/Cataplexy. Who would have thunk it. I have learned that it is unusual to get this condition at my age but the more I think back over the years, the more past episodes make sense now.
Anyway, Now that I seem to have Cataplexy, can I expect this problem to get worse or will it perhaps go away?Any responses are greatly appreciated.
