Hello,

I have for many months now been experiencing what I call "sleep attacks" or "trances" throughout the day. It's gotten so bad that it is affecting my job (most of the "attacks" happen at work while I'm sitting at my desk).

I finally went to the DR, and she gave me a preliminary diasgnosis of narcolepsy-I will be doing a consult at a sleep center in a few weeks followed by a sleep study.

So let me know if this sounds familar, or share your stories.

Usually I know I'm going to fall asleep before my attack-My eyelids will start drooping or my eyes will start watering, forcing me to close them. Do narcoleptics usually know they are going to fall asleep? The problem with me is, no matter how much I tell myself not to fall asleep, a few seconds later I'm sleeping.

The oddest part is, I start dreaming as soon as I fall asleep. Sometimes I'll be having a dream but I'll still be half awake, if that makes sense. Sound familiar? It feels like I'm sleeping for a few seconds (I've been told it's actually a couple of minutes), before I'll wake up. I realize I've been sleeping-And then I fall right back asleep. My body feals weightless, like I'm on a rollercoaster. For 20minutes to and hour at a time, I go back and forth between sleeping and waking for a few seconds. I am in a haze the entire time, dreaming while awake.

So is this familiar? Care to share your story?
