Posted by narco-newbie on October 01, 2009 at 07:46:14:I lack stage three and four sleep - seen by two different sleep specialists three and five years ago. I was told by both there were no medicines at that time that would help. The most recent one was a neurologist. He stated that a new med was coming out that looked promising. I wonder if that was Xyrem.
I live in a new state and have an appt scheduled to see a neurologist sleep specialist in three weeks. I just received a phone call from another clinic saying they will get me in less than a week. That person has a medical degree and is a sleep specialist. His internship was in internal med and pediatrics. He has researched breathing and CPAP.
I have concerns because my problem has nothing to do with breathing as it has already been noted. Mine is over 200 alpha intrusions a night, about 10% of my time or less in stage three and four sleep. I fear that this person will just look at the pulmonary side and say "CPAP". I need relief. Nothing has worked and I want to try the Xyrem. I have been in a fog my whole life - most of the time, not always.
The other place is a neurological sleep specialist center. I can't look up the specific doctors qualifications but since it's neuro, I assume its better than the other person.
What would you do? Wait for the neuro or go to the sleep specialist.
