My friend feels the same about our colleagues knowing, which is something I completely understand. I'm glad that he trusts me enough to have talked to me about it at all; we've both been through near identical circumstances in our lives, which many people couldn't understand, so I guess we're lucky enough to share a sort of understanding in other areas, which makes it easier.

Ultimately, I know very well how hard it can be to have those around you trying to be supportive and sympathetic and yet inadvertantly saying and doing all the wrong things. I really just want to be there for him in the most practical and appropriate way.
