I am new to this board, and new to understanding Narcolepsy so I would really appreciate any advice.
I have had a sleeping issue for around 4 years. I am ALWAYS tired. So tired some days I can barely even walk. About 2 years ago I experienced my first "episode" where I could not wake from sleep. My body was somewhat functional, but I could only get to a 1/2 sitting position before my body gave out and I couldnt move. Since then they have become more frequent. Maybe 1-2 a week at night.I also have these episodes during the day where I HAVE to lay down and sleep. My body goes very week, I get very dizzy and feel the extreme need for sleep. If I lay down, I fall asleep instantly, but I can still hear everything around me. I can fight these attacks off sometimes, by trying to keep moving or concentrating on something, but most the time I cant.
This feeling last for about 10 -20 mins. Same when I try to wake from sleep, it takes me around 20 mins to be able to function. Once I snap out of it I feel better for about an hour, then im very tired again.
I was told by a few people I might have Narcolepsy, however I was under a false impression of what Narcolepsy actually was. I thought it was cut and dry..you fall asleep instantly without warning in all places. Thats it. There wasnt any variation. I knew I didnt do that, so I thought I didnt have Narcolepsy. But the more I actually look into this condition the more I realize it sounds just like me.
What do you all think? Do I sound like I may in fact have Narcolepsy? We do not have insurance but the extreme fatigue and episodes is getting more and more frequent and I cant live like this any longer, so we are looking into getting me insurance.
But until then I would love any comments or advice.Thank you so much for reading, i am so happy I have found this forum.
