Will I ever get my daughter back?

My wonderful 17 yr old daughter was finally diagnosed last Friday with narcolepsy. I had assumed the same diagnosis for the past 2 yrs. Now she has started Provigil yesterday, she had a EEG on Monday and a MRI and sleep study are to come. The Provigil has changed her already (she was up from 6am to midnight yesterday) she was "loopy", and really not my kid! Will this level off? Will I ever get my daughter back? Is the "cure" possibly worse than the disease? I love her and want her to have a normal life. She suffers from daily cataplexy episodes. Will the drug help? Who can help me understand?
