Posted by Theresa on November 01, 1999 at 19:26:24:I am 19 years old, and I was just recently diagnosed with Narcolepsy. My major symptom is EDS & occasional sleep paralysis. My neurologist wants to run one more MSLT to confirm the diagnosis because I told him I have shown no signs of cataplexy. After doing a bit of research, however, I'm beginning to wonder if I do have cataplexy, or if I'm just being over paranoid. When I was about 15 I used to experience my toes going numb. It got so bad, I went to the doctor, & I was told that I was still growing, and pressure was hitting a few nerves in my feet. The problem eventually went away, but since I've been diagnosed with Narcolepsy, I've been noticing a weakness in my arms from time to time. I can still move them, but even a couple of my fingers have gone numb. Does this sound like cataplexy or am I just over-paranoid now? The only meds I'm taking is 200mg of modafinil a day (along with 3-4 20 min naps!). Also, I don't want to sound stupid or embarress anybody, but I'm curious...Cataplexy is triggered by extreme emotion right? So what happens when achieving orgasm? Does your whole body just go numb? Are our sexual lives suddenly damned forever? If anyone feels comfortable talking about their experience with anything I've just asked, please reply asap. Thanks.
Theresa.
