Hiya Stephanie,
I don't actually fall asleep uncontrolably, like "at the wheel", but instead "Switch-Off". I just blank out, go unconcious, miss time. Perhaps I am asleep.
I have to keep my brain very active to stop it happening. If I am doing something monotanous, or having a boring conversation etc., I just "Switch-Off". I have no idea what I have done in this time, & am aware of nothing taking place in the gap. I can be even walking when it happens or doing something physical. I often get very concerned about what I may have done or said in the gap, & have often found I've done bizarre things. It is just like the body can continue on auto-pilot, without me being there. It was with this that I found Dexedrine to be of most benefit. I could concentrate on things far better, without switching off.
Perhaps this is falling asleep, but I call it "Switching-Off".
