Hello John,
This is my first posting to this forum, although I have been reading it for the last few months, it is by far the best I have seen thus far in my research on N/IO. I was diagnosed approx. 2 months ago, and that is another very long detailed story, of which I intend to share here, although I need to wait until I am feeling a little more positive about this experience as I do not want to post in the very negative, frustrated state I am in right now. Also I know once I get started, I will go on and on, as I have so many questions, and thoughts on my condition. At any rate I would first like to say, that I truley respect your obvious dedication to learning more about this, and the fact that you share your findings with others. Obviously you, like I am now, have learned that living with this disorder is a daily struggle in many ways. Thank you for your insight and your willingness to try to help others.
At any rate, on to why I'm posting briefly now, I wanted to just let you know, as I said I was diagnosed 2 months ago with N/IO, Dr. is not sure which due to the fact that I was on Effexor XR (antideppressant drug) at the time of my sleep study. Thats another very long, and frustrating story, of which I will explain when I tell "My N story" as I call it. See I told you once I got started this would get lengthy! I apologize.
Back to why I'm posting here. My mother was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago, and I believe that she had an aunt who died from diabetes as well. One other thought you may be interested in. I'm not sure of this, but if I remember correctly, I thought maybe I read somewhere that Narcolepsy may be related in some remote way to Epilepsy, and Torettes Syndorme? Is that correct? The only reason I mention it is that I had a thought recently that I do have a cousin that has Torettes.
Anyway, as I said I will be posting my story soon, as soon as I get the enery, the ambition, and hopefully a more positive attitude, as I do not want to sound like a negative, depressed whiner! Quite honestly I am so completley frustrated at this point that I am afraid it would be very difficult to be anything but at this point.
I would like to thank everyone who posts on this forum, and the sandman for creating it. It truly has given me more knowledge about this nasty monster they call Narcolepsy. Knowledge that apparently my doctors are not aware of or just don't care enough to share. ( See there is that negativity again!)
Thank you everyone for your thoughts, it seems almost as if you guys are kind of a "family" if you will. Its very helpful to visit here.
Will post again soon, I am looking forward to chatting with many of you.
Debra
