Karen,
I agree that Provigil is a fairly good med to be on. My side-effects have been minimal, and there are occasional days where I don't need naps (however, these days are rare). When I first started taking it, I had trouble sleeping at night too, but this soon stopped happpening. I started having trouble with the drug when 200 mg didn't seem to be enough for me anymore. It's almost like I had built up a tolerance. My doctor said I could try and boost the dose to 300 mg, but studies showed that anything over 200 mg usually doesn't do much more for the EDS. Sure enough, he was right. 300 mg made no difference to minimizing the EDS. He did give me the option of Ritalin, but in the end I chose to stick with Provigil, and put up with taking many naps a day. I remember reading somewhere that Provigil isn't supposed to make you alert, it's just supposed to keep you from falling asleep. This for me is definately true. Hence, half the time it feels like I'm in some sort of daze.
Hope that helps. Good luck.
Theresa.
