Sleep in 30 Sec?

Posted by reatha on January 31, 2000 at 13:55:35:

Me again. I was just reading the opening page to this forum (again). Sleep attacks, what a confusing thing to me this is. Why? Each person I have talked with seems a bit different. Some of you can fight off sleep attacks all together if you keep moving. Some of you can sleep at the drop of a hat. I understand that everyone is different. However,if you can fight off these attacks, were you able to go to sleep during the daily nap testing at the lab? I read that you can do a home MSLT. I tried. Supposed to hold keys on two fingers. When they drop, you awaken due to the sound and know that you had fallen asleep. This is supposed to happen within 5 minutes for you to assume that you are excessively sleepy. Not only did this not work for me, but it frustrated me tremendously. I am starting to feel like I may never even be able to fall asleep at the lab. Anyone else ever felt that way??? I can't hold my head up, but if someone tells me I have to fall asleep just like that, I'm not sure what would happen. The mind is a funny thing ya know? Can you really fall asleep on an attack for 30 seconds???????? I heard that you can. Are you unaware of your surroundings during such a short time? So much to learn here. Thirty seconds. Do you REALLY wake up after 30 seconds thinking, Oh no! I must have dozed off again? Also, one other question. Do any of you have more than one sleeping disorder. The more I read, the more I find out. Anyone out there have Narcolepsy and apnea or Restless leg, etc?????? Did this happen frequently? Gosh, I am sorry to ramble on. This is the best place for information in the world though. And, for what it is worth, you all have made me feel like a human being again. THANKS!
