I FINALLY KNOW!

Posted by Brian on February 01, 2000 at 22:30:04:

For sixteen years I didn't realize I had a problem. The day I knew it was when I dropped my six-month old little girl. I fell asleep while holding her, within the blink of an eye. I was heartbroken. I finally went to see a doctor and he said I had a mild case of narcolepsy and prescribed Ritalin. After playing with the dosage and dealing with the lack of concentration I was comfortable with a 10 and a 20 mg dose, three times a day. That was two years ago. The last three months I have been resorting to crushing it and putting it directly on my tounge so that it would work faster and hopefully better. It stopped working. I could still fall asleep within an hour after taking it. I went to a nuerologist and had a sleep test done. Twenty-one hours later, five seperate dreams within six twenty minute naps it was officially documented: Narcolepsy. It had come full circle for me today. A lot of unanswered questions were answered today for me. For sixteen years I've wondered why I couldn't stay awake when others could and always came up with an excuse that sufficed me for the time being. I never could take breaks at work or lunch because my body would shut down. After two and a half years of Ritalin, (my wife just asked me if I was awake) twenty-one hours of being connected to numerous wires, I have my answer and I have Provigil! Praise the Lord! Today I begin my new life, and begin looking at things through OPEN eyes, and not half-shut ones!
