John,
I also suffer from depression. Whether the depression or narcolepsy started first is anyones guess since both started long before diagnosised with narcolepsy. As a teenager I suffered form depression but also was unable to stay awake in my classes even when I wasn't depressed. I wasn't diagnosised with narcolepsy untill 20 some years latter. Away, Donna maybe right, Prozac isn't for everyone. The Wellbutrin she takes can also be a help to control the sleepiness. This is what I was told whem Wellbutrin was given to me to help me stop smoking. Unfortunitly with everyone's chemistry being different anti-depressants as well as medications for Narcolepsy don't work for all the same way. It's kind of a trial and error thing. This can become very fruastrating at times.
But don't give up. Keep a log of what your mood is like daily and take it with you to the doctor the next time you go. Try to take note if the depression is better at one time of day compared to another. Also monitor how our eating and sleeping, also anything that seems unusal about yourself, including increased or decreased anxiety. These things will help your phyciatrist as well as your neurologist know which medications might be better for you. Keep us informed as to how your doing.
