The objections you raised make a lot of sense. However, It's clear to me some of them were raised because of a misunderstanding, maybe because my writing is not the best. If you were to take another look at what I wrote you would see that I agree that if God wants to talk to a person 'He' DOESNT have to 'put' you into Sleep Paralysis. My final statement was "I believe that sleep paralysis may be another method for "hearing the divine.""
When I spoke of free will I was not talking about the will to experience sleep paralysis or not, nor the ability to choose to hear voices or not. I'm speaking of the free will one has to respond to the event. Many many things that happen in our lives we have no control over, but we have control over how we respnd to it. If a voice were to say 'steal this' or 'give to charity', either way you still have a choice to carry it out, unless your diagnosed as 'insane' which involves many other factors.
Concerning sleep paralysis in general. I used to be scared, but as time went on I decided not to be, then it became nothing more then a slight irratation. Now, I almost look forward to it because of other positive experiences I have had in it, even though it keeps me paralized. Of course these are my own personal experiences, others' may not be the same. You could say I take the good with the bad, but thats not even how I look at it. I chose to use the paralysis as a lesson on being patient. I know it will end eventually. And to be honest, other positive experiences I have at times during these events tend to overshadow the paralysis. So I don't veiw it as a 'terrible' thing, but if you do, O.K.
Also, is it concievable to you that a God of Love and Mercy may at times do things that we may not care for but may be beneficial to us? If a sick person vomits it doesn't feel good, but it has a beneficial purpose. So even though we may not like going through it or see what good there is in it, isn't it still possible it could have good beneificial purpose? Isn't it possible that everything has a purpose, regardless of whether we recognize it or not, including SP? This is the opinion I'm in and no disrespect to you if you don't see it that way.Your comment about demons being very deceptive troubled me a bit. I agree that they can decieve, and once decieved only God could bring you out of it. However, I dont think that they have free reign and power to decieve anyone they like, especially not those who seek God sincerely. Why would God allow those who seek 'Him' and the truth through Him to be tricked? I imagine God is All Powerful, so therefore the 'devil' can't just do as he likes and decieve whomever he pleases, he has only the power to do as God allows. Like I said before, I pray extensively on the topic that God help me form the right opinion. And I was already in the opinion that God wants people to turn to 'Him' for guidance. Therefore, I don't expect anything but to be guided aright. And I would urge you and anyone else who believes in God to ask God for help to guide you into the right opinion. Assurance in our own opinions without having turned to God about it may not be the wisest stance to take. This is not to say that you haven't done so.
I hope this may have given you a better understanding of my points as related to where I am coming from. You have given me a lot to think about though. I am trying to find some books on the subject of SP but there seems to be little about it. If you're interested, theres an indepth article on Narcolepsy in the January 2000 issue of Scientific American.
God Bless
