Thank you for your input. As I had mentioned to Deb, I think there's been a misunderstanding when I was talking about sleep paralysis and free will. I was refering to the voices and other phenomana that occur for some people during these episodes. I'll reprint what I wrote:

When I spoke of free will I was not talking about the will to experience sleep paralysis or not, nor the ability to choose to hear voices or not. I'm speaking of the free will one has to respond to the event. Many many things that happen in our lives we have no control over, but we have control over how we respnd to it. If a voice were to say 'steal this' or 'give to charity', either way you still have a choice to carry it out, unless your diagnosed as 'insane' which involves many other factors.

I also want to mention that most people I've talked to say they are 'conscious' when this happens. I don't know how it goes with you, but I know I am. I am very aware of whats going on. I dont treat it as a dream where I'm just "in the mix of the story" so to speak. Since I am conscious, I have the normal amount of control over how scared or nervous or irritated or calm I'm going to be. Sometimes when its over I feel great because of 'what else' happened besides the paralysis. And if something is said to me during it or something else happens thats 'odd,' I react to it in my mind the same as if I was physically able to move, because mentally I'm already awake. But your experince must not be the same and I'm quite aware that not all expeiences are. I'm just sharing my experience of course.

Concerning my comparisons of the two kids. I had already considered what you proposed as well, but it just so happens that I began to ponder over the possible spiritual factors and implications that could exist. I didn't relay the specific details that made me think the way I do about it because theres A LOT, I didnt want to put that all in here. There's definitely info on Kip Kinkle on the net if you want to know more. And although you might think so, I've made no conclusions at all concerning this, just a hypothesis. And I think if you were to look up the meaning of hypothesis you would see that drawing conclusions without facts is exactly the way a hypothesis is approached. Scientists make a hypothesis first and then they look for evidence in order to prove it true or false. IF it is true it becomes a theory and then maybe a law. Maybe you ment to say theory and not hypothesis. But either way I certainly didn't proposed anything like a theory. My last sentence was:
I believe that sleep paralysis may be another method for "hearing the divine." And there may be undiscovered purposes of a more physical/biological nature as well.
I use 'may' instead of 'is' because there's no tangible proof to what I'm considering, and due to the nature of the topic I wonder if it even could be 'proved' one way or another. I'm not really concerned about trying to prove what I'm saying because not all experiences are the same, and if its related to God it can't be tested using the scientific method anyway. I am just offering a perspective from a spiritual standpoint for people to consider.

I like your idea about the dream state. I've sort of thought about it in this way a couple times. It makes me wonder is there are other sites like this one that talk specifically about dreams, because dreams probably need a whole site for themselves. I'll have to check that out. I thank you again for responding and hope this time I didn't sound like I was trying to 'enforce' any of my own thoughts on the matter. All I write is strictly for others to speculate over.

God Bless
