Narcolepsy, A Left Over From A Nervous BreakDown???

Posted by John D. Lyle on December 11, 1999 at 17:37:25:

It seems that many people who are Narcoleptic have also had bad experiences in there past. This of course may be due to the N in itself & other peoples attitude towards us, but some of the things which have happened were behond our control.
Perhaps in some people Narcolepsy is a left over effect of some sort of nervous-breakdown, especially happening durin childhood.
I'm not saying that N is a psychological problem, but that a time of deep stress may trigger a dormant gene. This may be utter clap-trap, but if peoples testimonies are anything to go by, it seems there is a link between developing Narcolepsy & childhood trauma.
I'm not sure if this is the case in my case, but I did have what most would consider a bad childhood. Allthough the N started before the bad events. I think that the Narcolepsy actually shielded me from the full brunt of what happened to me & in some ways has been, strangely my saviour.
