This thread is leaving me a bit nervous. I have a difficult enough time trying to get people to take me seriously, and to view N. as a physical condition. Even more so when the medication that is effective for me is similar to that used for those struggling with mental illness. For years one of the reasons that I didn't pursue medical help was because I had heard that I would first have to go through psychiatric screening. My twist on it is that Ns. are just as likely as anyone else to have grown up in a dysfunctional environment as anyone else. Their N. (and possibly their parent's N.) could have contributed to conditions. The presence and fear of cataplexy could add to increased inability to feel and express deep emotions. I wholeheartedly support ya-ll's success with counselling. Every good thing we do for ourselves seems to help us cope with the rest of the struggles, just like exercise and eating well, and finding inner peace, etc., but I'm not sure we should theorize the cause of N. with generalizations. Hope this does not sound over critical. Maybe others who did not grow up in difficult home environments should be encouraged to respond to this issue as well to see if there is a corelation.
