Bev,
I strongly agree with your posting. Sadly, it seems many people these days have experienced traumatic childhoods to some degree. I would like to point out that Narcolepsy IS NOT neccessarily the direct cause of every single issue the person may have, but perhaps it contributes to the inability of letting go of bad memories and moving on with your life. This is because REM is supposed to aid a person in the processing of conscious information (hence, we dream). Since the REM patterns in a Narcoleptic are abnormal, the result is abnormal or incomplete processing of conscious events. In particular, traumatic events are the hardist to process since they envoke so much emotion, you can't think straight. Finally, any major emotional events for someone with Narcolepsy are remembered like they happened yesterday because they were never properly/completely processed by the brain. As a result, we MAY have a harder time in letting go of hard times from the past. All of this information was *sceptically* given to me by my psycologist. Who knows if it's true, but it seems to make sense, and so far I haven't found any arguements against it.
So again in response to your post, I definately agree that pretty much everyone has childhood issues these days, BUT these issues can seem never ending for a Narcoleptic because the memories and feelings remain powerful and vivid.
