Betty Ann,

Bloodtesting is only useful now and then
in so called sporadic narcolepsy (ie not
familial). In the (very rare) cases that
narcolepsy runs in families (as seems to
be the case for you), interestingly, patients
are typical negative for DR2!! So if you have
a familial form of narcolepsy, and you test
negative for HLA-DR2, it only makes the diagnosis
stronger!!
BTW: if you are part in the Stanford studies,
you can be sure that your diagnosis is right. If
that doctor in Minn. really reacted this way, he
doesn't now anything about narcolepsy. If you
talk to him again, refer him to Stanford (or me
for that matter) for references on the subject.
