Posted by Rebecca on February 06, 2000 at 16:01:22:Before I started on Provigil last December, I was on Effexor since August 1999. I was doing fine on Effexor, along with Ritalin. Somehow, the Ritalin didn't really help because I was falling asleep everywhere. Also, it made me depressed. That is why I was told to take Effexor to take care of the depression caused by Ritalin. Then, I informed my neurologist up in Annapolis, Maryland about my sleepiness situation with Ritalin and Effexor. He recommended that I take Provigil, instead of Ritalin.. When I started taking Provigil, I felt great.. I was able to stay awake more than I used to.. Somehow, I started to get some wierd side effect, such as nighttime sweatings, insomnia, and increased eating habits.. I researched online about these medication. I found that taking both medicine increased the side effect. Then, I informed my doctor about this research. He agreed that I should stop taking Effexor. But, I am asking those who are taking both Provigil and Effexor about the side effects.. Is it true that the side effects do increase while taking both? Is it best to discontinue taking Effexor?
I have similiar situations to those who have Narcolepsy that was diagnosed as Bipolor Depression before finding the proof of medical documentation that I have Narcolepsy. For years, I was labeled Depressed which I tried to convince them that I don't have depression. I was tired all the time, not suicidal.. Not feeling bad, like dark cloud! They kept insisting that I have Depression. As of last two year after finding out that I have Narcolepsy. I have tried to convince my current Psychiatrist that I don't have Depression.. He still thinks that I have Bipolor Depression because of my sudden angry outbursts.
I tried explaining that my angry outbursts is because the staff where I am in the program kept defending themselves and refused to listen to me.. Also, I was frustrated that I wasn't able to explain my valid points to them.. And, the pattern of the outbursts was the fact that I learned from my parents.. That isn't a good way to exhibit those behaviors onto the children..
But, I really want to stay on Provigil and discontinue taking Effexor. I still need your help proving that there are side effects while taking both Provigil and Effexor! And, I am looking for someone who has similar experience that I have about being labeled depressed before finding out about Narcolepsy.. I want to be able to prove to the Psychiatrist that I have Narcolepsy, not Depression. I don't know how to do that! I need your help in doing this! I hope to hear from you soon!
