Posted by Debra on February 28, 2000 at 17:04:20:Okay guys, Here are a few questions for you? One would think that with all the research I've done on N/IH I would know the answers by now, but I still don't fully understand, so maybe some of you could help me.
Regarding REM sleep...
*Do we as Narcoleptics not go into REM sleep at all, or do we just not get enough?
*Is REM when your body heals itself? (ex: revitalizes, strengthens muscles, fights infections, etc.) If so, is this why I seem to be achey all over, skin doesn't heal, feel run down all the time? Is this why we have such vivid constand dreaming?
*Will we never have enough REM sleep? Does sleep inducing meds give us REM sleep?
* Do you guys have incredible appetites at night? I never want to eat during am, but cant stop in PM! Is that the effects of stimulants wearing off at night?
*Cataplexy....I don't believe I've ever had a cataplexy attack, but my legs are constantly so weak, and weighty. I am not overweight...well ok, maybe 10 lbs or so, but not too heavy for my height.(6ft) I know that n doesnt always include cataplexy, but is there mild forms of cataplexy? Could this be?
* Either I read somewhere, or someone explained to me, (can't remember exactly....no help needed with memory loss issues...thats a definite symptom for sure! ;)) that in a N's brain..the brain sends constant signals to the body to sleep, wake, sleep, wake....which is why we constantly sleep during the day, and constantly wake in the pm. Does that sound correct?
Also....some motivational tips needed. I know in my mind that I absolutely have to start excercising, and how crucial it is to helping my symptoms, as well as helping the constant back, neck aches...but quite honestly I feel so incredibly tired, and weak everyday that I just cant seem to get there! Any tips?
Also...drinking water....another vital aid...I feel so incredibly full and bloated immediately after eating or drinking even the smallest amount of food or liquid. Not sure why that is, but drinking more h20 feels like it just weighs me down and makes my stomach ache tremendously?
What to do...what to do?
Any suggestions?
Thanks again...for all your input!Wishing us all a happy, energetic, sleepless day tommorrow!
Debra
