From what I've researched, Provigil and Ritalin are stimulants and Vivactil is the antidepressant. So the Dr probably had you try Provigil instead of Ritalin. If, as the way you said it, he asked you to try Vivactil intead of Ritalin, then you stopped taking a stimulant completely? The Vivactil is supposed to decrease the cataplexy, but I've never had it (yet...) so I don't know personally.

I was diagnosed last month and have only taken Vivactil and Provigil for two weeks. I have never tried Ritalin or any others.

I am more awake during the day. I tried only the Vivactil and no stimulant last Monday and Tuesday, and was much more sleepy (sleepier?). But I have been dreaming more, and hallucinating more on the meds. I don't think the Vivactil is at the right level.

In terms of side effects, I read that Provigil caused a lot of people to get headaches. I haven't had any, so I think it's the one for me. As I said earlier though, the Vivactil is giving me such a dry mouth... I'm a teacher, and last night we had an awards ceremony called "Evening With the Stars." I had to talk about the three students I nominated and I got so dry, my lips and cheeks were sticking to my teeth, and my tongue couldn't help at all... it was so embarrasing...

...but it makes me drink more water, which is good for me...ha! In order to want to drink water I have to have a dry mouth problem! I reallllly don't like drinking water...
