? about EDS

Posted by Trixie on March 20, 2000 at 08:56:58:

I have had several people tell me that they don't think my son has narcolepsy because of the fact that (according to their knowledge) narcoleptics usually just fall asleep for very brief moments, eyes rolling back or closing for a minute or two before snapping back out of it. My son actually falls asleep for longer periods of time, usually until someone forcefully wakes him up. Perhaps it has to do with adults having more motivation to stay awake and fighting it harder? I don't know, but is EDS typically just little mini episodes? I have a friend with sleep apnea and he has these mini episodes of zoning out, but I always suspect that if he "let himself" he could fall asleep as soundly as my son does.
