I'm beginning to wonder about me, too

Thanks for the reply. I also saw on this web site when I relooked it up that EDS can last up to a half an hour, which correlates with his episodes.

I've been doing a lot of reading trying to figure out if my son has narcolepsy, and along the way, noted with curiosity that I seem to have a few of the symptoms, too. But I never felt 'abnormal'. I just felt, and still feel, like a normal, sleep deprived, rushed single mother of three kids. I do not have extreme EDS, but I certainly have those little 'snaps' where suddenly, in the middle of a task, my eyes close for a few seconds until I will myself back. Since it happens more often in the afternoons, I just blamed normal sleepiness, which still seems reasonable. But what is wierd is that when I fall asleep initially, it is not a restful sleep and I often wake back up in an hour or so. During that first hour, I have these wierd dream like images and thoughts, and sometimes hear strange sounds, like growling, or swishing grass. It's like I can't figure out if I'm asleep or awake. But I just chalked that up to stress, you know, having a hard time unwinding at night. And then I noticed another symptom being the feeling of being paralyzed, which I frequently get. I wake up, or I think I wake up, but can't move, and it's like I'm inside myself shouting at my legs to move. But I always thought it was just a nightmare.

All of these symptoms didn't seem abornmal to me (and I have no symptoms of cataplexy) and would have just chalked it up to stressful life had i not started studying narcolepsy in behalf of my son. But i can't figure out whether to take my own "symptoms" seriously in factoring his risk factor, or if I'm just now being paranoid and seeing it everywhere.

Oh, and is it a symptom to never feel like you get enough sleep, even if you sleep seven hours a night?
