Posted by jess's mum on April 25, 2000 at 21:06:30:my daughter,18, was diagnosed a year and a half ago. she tried ritalin, and adderall but did not like the effects of the drugs. she was playing varsity basketball and the meds made her heart race. her doctor then recommended taking depakote. this drug is for seizures and/or mood swings. his reasoning is that her narcolepsy/eds could be caused by a part of her brain having become irritated resulting in her sleep rythyms and body rythyms to be out of sync. this irritation could have been caused by an allergic reaction, high fever or some sort of blood borne toxicity and by taking depakote for two years the brain would become calmed. she also takes provogil and has no problems with this med. during the past year that she has been taking depakote her sleep patterns are regular. she says, after the first week of being on depakote that she actually felt refreshed upon awakening. i have searched many sites and not found anyone with narcolepsy taking depakote. has anyone heard of such a treatment?
