Hi, This is the first time I've ever posted to this group although I've read it for some time. I've been on Narcolepsy meds for 18 years. Mostly Ritalin. Last year I told Doc I wanted to try the new wonder drug, Provigil. At first I swore by it. In fact, I did for a long time. I knew something was wrong with me although I did not suspect Provigil as it supposedly has few side effects. The problem is that you can be slowly lured into a 'mental haze'. Everyone else will see it but not you. I would not have suspected the drug except others were complaining about yawning and 'being unproductive', 'staring blankly', 'memory loss' etc, etc. You can lose your lucidity which is what we are trying to get back in the first place. My other med is Wellbutrin SR which I cannot go w/o and reccomend for everyone to at least try. I take 2 150mg. a day. Keeps me focused. But the Provigil killed it too. When I realized what was going on, I got off it and onto Dexedrine. What a relief! My family and friends are also thrilled at my return to sentience. Please be careful w/ this. It is presented as harmless. No drug is harmless especially those that fool with our CNS. Like all of us you will have to experiment to find what works best. You say your on Cylert, that is kind of weak. Maybe try small doses of Ritalin a few times a day. (Nevermind the generic, it doesn't work.) Dexedrine is also tolerable if used carefully. Mayo Clinic says Desoxyn is best. Fat chance if anyone will prescribe that though. (That torques my hide.) Please just don't assume that all will be well w\ Provigil. I lost 8 months I can't get back because of that drug. Listen to what your wife tells you about your mood/productivity/liveleness. They are all indicators. Hope all goes well. Scott
