I think that most narcoleptics do have some degree of sleepiness, however, it is widely varied. I didn't think that I had EDS, at first, because I never fell asleep without any control. From what I had read, before I went in for testing, I thought that narcoleptics fell asleep with any warning all the time. I think that a lot of narcoleptics to have this horrible problem, but others aren't so unfortunate. If you do have narcolepsy, your automatic behavior is probably due to EDS.

Automatic behavior, overall mental confusion, and horrible nightmares have been my biggest symptoms, but I also regularly experience cataplexy and occasionally have sleep paralysis. Anyway, I think you should be evaluated by a sleep specialist, because cataplexy without narcolepsy is rare.
