Changing Meds

Posted by susan on April 28, 2000 at 19:36:54:

I will try to make this message short but I am not sure that I will be able to do that so please be patient. I have not actually posted anything very often but have been reading the forum for sometime now and feel it gives me more information that the doctors are able to do. My problem is that I have been on dex for approximately 5 years now and for the most part have lead a very normal life with a mixture of good days and bad days. In the past few months I have had to either douple or triple the amount of dex that I have previously taken and one of the side effects of that change is I am very snappy and short tempered with is completely out of character for me. I went to my sleep specialist today and she is now going to change my medication starting tomorrow morning. I will take 5 mg of dex in the morning along with the new med which is 200 mg of provigil then at around noon I will take another 5 mg of dex. I am to do this for 3 to 4 weeks then go back to see her. I have been taking between 30 and 45 mgs of dex for the last few months and before that I only had to take 15 mg of dex on most days if it was a bad day I would take another 15 mg but that was very seldom.

What I need to know is what this type of change is going to do to my system starting tomorrow morning what do I have to look forward to or to dread when my day starts. I work full time but at least it is the weekend and I am not working again until Monday so at least I can stay home if I need to. To be quiet honest I am a little, no make that a lot scared of this change. Any advise that any of you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Please accept my apologies for any errors in the grammer or spelling of this message as I have litterly worked myself up quiet alot over this new change. I don't handle change very well.

Thanks ahead of time for all of you that have taken the time to read this mess that I have written and thanks to any of you that can lend me any of your advise or idea.

Thanks Bunches,

Susan
