I was prescribed Provigil for EDS, also. My doc said that during the sleep latency test I "slept like a narcoleptic but without the REM." Diagnosis: Idiopathic Hypersomnia.
I also have Sleep Apnea, which often causes EDS. CPAP wasn't enough for me.
My insurance would only cover the Provigil if the doc wrote Narolepsy on the script. I think it's only "approved" for N, but is used for EDS.
By the way, the Provigil made me nauseous. I switched to Ritalin and I can finally stay awake all day!
