I want this to help - you sound very much like I sounded at one point. I mean this to be a caring and sensitive message - if it sounds otherwise please let me know. And know that it would be because I'm having difficulty finding the right words. Here goes...
Donna posted a message on 6/14 in response to someone else and Provigil, tempermant and moodiness. I thought her message was well put. Mostly I think because it was about being gentle with yourself.
Crying is about being sad about how you feel. So I hope you had a good cry today. It would be odd if you didn't feel grief over the loss of your life as you knew it, sad over the changes to you and your children's relationship, and sad over what your children will miss out on. Yes, they may grow up to be better adults for it but that doesn't change that it hurts along the way.
I didn't really hear my sleep doctor when he told me Narcolpesy was incurable because in the same breath he said it was treatable. When he mentioned naps as a treatment strategy I skipped right over it - who has time to nap? It took me years (can you believe that?) to allow myself to nap, truly rest and be OK with it. I still experience frustration over my limitations - I don't drive long distances and have severely limited what driving I do and when I do it. I don't try to force Narcolepsy to fit my life anymore - my life had to fit Narcolepsy. I wasted a lot of precious energy getting there. And it is treatable - there are times I feel less tired than others, but pretty much all the time I feel tired/sleepy on some level.
Be good to yourself - things will change (of course on any given day it may go either way).
You're in my thoughts. Take care.
