Narcolepsy is the inability to control staying awake. Going to sleep at night is not a problem because we have the ability to go into immediate rapid eye movement (dreams. Not that I am a psychiatrist but my two older sons initially were diagnosed with ADHD but what wasn't discovered until later was that they are bipolar. The medicine for ADHD will agitate a person who is bipolar and make him extremely agitated if he is not treated for the bipolar also. My oldest son had HUGE rages and felt agitated, angry, hopeless, and manic all the time until I found a reputable teaching hospital who appropiately diagnosed him. There are many doctors out there- ie good, bad, horrible--- if you catch my drift. If you are unhappy with the doctor your son goes to- find another... I am very happy with my sons doctor now and she has been a lifeline when it comes to helping them and our family.
