My experience was not great with provigil the side effects were worse than just wanting to sleep all of the time. I constantly felt like I was on a roller coaster with my moods going up and down. My doctor took me off after a few weeks. I am back on dexatrine combined with protriptyline and I am much better. It took a week or two to start feeling better after the provigil. I am not sure what started my down on the dexatrine as I had been on it for around 5 years with little or no trouble. I held down a more than full time job during those last four year. I worked between 60 and 70 hours a week. Granted once I stopped at night I would crash but it was a good crash. Without my medicine I could not even get out of bed. I married, moved and switched jobs in July of 99. I no longer had the stress of the long hours mostly trying to prove to myself that I could keep up. I still have a full time job and some days are definately rough but it is a normal 40 hours a week job. Everything was fine until around December or January. During that time the dexadrine didn't seem to work like before I found myself having to take more than before and still without any results. The only thing that was different was a sinus infection and my first run of allergies. Maybe that had something to do with the change in my body but either way switching to the provigil was worse than any of the medicines that they had tried me on when I was first diagnosed in 94. Things are beginning to get better again they are still not as they were before December but any improvement is better than the way I felt on the provigil. At least now I know that I am human.

I will go in for another sleep study on Monday night this time while taking my medicine. I am not sure what the doctor expects to fine but if she is willing to keep searching for an answer than I am willing to keep trying because the only alternative is to stop trying and that is not an option for me. My oldest daughter had her third son last Wednesday and my second daughter is due August 3 for her first child, I hope a girl, my last daughter graduates from high school in May and will be off to college like the other two. I have to much to watch and take part in to sleep my life away so if experiment is what we have to do than that is what I will do. None of us can give up as we only have each other.

Sorry that this has gotten so long I only started to say if the provigil does not work don't stop there keep trying until you find one that works or until they experiment on enough of us to find help for the rest.

Good luck and god bless.

Susan K.
