Theresa,

I have had 3 experiences just like yours while driving. 2 of them were while driving, and one was while sitting in traffic.
I don't know what it is called, but I think it is a "Microsleep" of a "Rem episode". Twice, upon "waking up" from it (it only lasted a second) I didn't know where I was or what road I was on. I panicked! It took a little while to settle down. It happened after I was driving awhile and I was getting sleepy. I should have stopped to rest, but I was fighting it. That was before I got the dx of Narcolepsy. Now I know to stop and rest or nap when I start to get tired.
I travel extensively for my job, so now I am very careful about driving and sleepiness.
Maybe I should put a sign on the back of my truck saying "driver may zone out at any moment".
Hope this helps--you are not the only one with this problem.

Sleepily,

Casey
