The question of to drive or not to drive will always be a major decision for all of us.
I agree with Theresa. I don't want to be screamed at either. It sounds like her experience was one of automatic behavior, or just beginning to day dream during a drive over a familiar route, one she may have done many times.
All of us -even those who don't have Narcolepsy-tend to let our minds wander while driving. This can especially happen when we are driving to someplace that we have gone to hundreds of times, for example the grocery store. We know where it is, we know how to get there, the route is the same.
If Theresa feels she shouldn't drive, then she can make the decision. It's not about being stubborn or wanting to be "normal".
Everyone here knows my story (again-travel for work 100-300 miles a day and I'm Narcoleptic). I know when it's time to stop and rest.
