Hi Kristy,

I apoligize for not answering your questions yet, I've been very busy lately and have not had much time to post, although I read the posts every day.
I'm glad to hear that you saw a doc and that you have a medication to take that might help you.
After a definate diagnosis of Narcolepsy in June, I started on Provigil, which made me very sick and extremely depressed. About 3 weeks ago, I started on Ritalin and Effexor XL (an anti-depressent). Things began to improve, although within a week I was on the phone with the doc. becouse the effect of the Ritalin didn't last long enough and I begin having sleep attacks in the late afternoon. Now I'm up to 10 mg 3 times a day.
My sleepiness lessened, I became more mentally alert, not as forgetful, I was able to do more things and almost function as a "normal" person would. My urges to nap also lessened, I actually stopped taking naps completely.
Within the past week, the meds seem to be becoming less effective. I know I don't ever want to go back to the way I felt before I started the medication, so I am paying close attention to the way I feel. I am waking up tired again, the mental confusion and forgetfullness are returning, I get urges to nap. The worst part is I feel the depression beginning to return. I have an appointment with the doc next Tuesday, I'm sure she may increase or change the meds.
I have no side effects from the Ritalin.
I know that finding a med that works is a trial and error situation. Ritalin may or may not work for you, just as Provigil didn't work for me, but it is great for some people. Stay in touch!

Sleepily,

Casey
