narcoleptic hallucinosis

Posted by ann on September 22, 2000 at 19:00:58:

My mother, who is 80 years old has had narcolepsy since her teens. She has developed a new symptom since the death of my father, at which time she was being treated with dexadrine and imipramine only. She has recurring hallucinations in which she hears her husband and a girlfriend plotting to kill her. She believes this is real and cannot be convinced otherwise. She has called law enforcement officers to get them out of her house and they and all her family have told her repeatedly that they are only an hallucination. Part of the hallucinations involves imagined spaces in the walls and under the floors of her house in which the conspriators live. She has been shown that these spaces do not exist but later she remembers things differently than they actually appear. Is this typical behavior in narcolepsy? Her sleep doctor sent her to a psychiatrist who diagnosed her as having narcoleptic hallucinosis. Has anyone heard of that?
