Nikki,
Understand that recommending the type of medication is very difficult. The medications used to treat Narcolepsy and Cataplexy function differently depending upon the individual. What works well for one of us may not work at all for another.

Since you are getting ready to make a long car trip please understand that it could be very dangerous. Driving even under medication can be risky when traveling long distance. I would recommend that you plan to stop at least every hour or so and get out and walk around. Since driving places us in a somewhat stationary place it is easy for a Narcoleptic attack to take place.

Please discuss this in detail with your Doctor before you leave for Dallas. Personally I take Provignil and have had very good success with it. I personally have made several trips from Florida to both West Virginia and Arkansas but still must take precautions such as stopping very frequently and getting out to move around.

Best of luck on your trip and in getting your diagnosis.
