the brain converts tyrosine into two transmiters important to narcolepsy ( dopamine and adrenalin )the original idea came from research done in france, where they were studying the sleep eeg's of normals and people that suffered any type of neurological problem. what they found was that narcoleptics and parkinsons patients both showed the same type of slowing in their nightime eeg's. so they tried giving L-Tyrosine to narcolepics and found it helped with cataplexy almost right away but it took longer to help with sleepyness.Personaly I find L-Tyrosine as good as any other treatment for cataplexy and you never have to go through the horrers of tolerance and withdrawl. Also Personaly I find higher doses much more effective also I fall asleep about an hour after taking tyrosine so I plan my life that way in terms of naps and nightime sleep. The quality of my sleep has been dramaticaly improved by tyrosine.I weigh 185lb and take 3grams two or three times a day but know nothing about how safe tyrosine is so you could talk to a Dr about that ( in USA L-tyrosine is purchased at health food stores )
