Posted by bert nagel on June 11, 2000 at 08:39:36:Septo/somno (base of tongue) performed Thursday, June 1. Nose pretty much healed & touchable by following Wednesday. Still not entirely "ungunked" so can't say "how" much better I'm breathing but wife reports snoring is virtually eliminated, my breathing is NOT stopping at ALL (major good news!) For my part, I've had good sleep for about 6 hours each night and daytime naps over past couple days--vast improvement over the past. On the other hand, I'm beginning to wonder just how many more weeks of pain I'm going to have to endure from the somno. For the most part, the on-going, second-to-second pain (like you just bit your tongue and it won't stop hurting) has somewhat shifted to on-again, off-again but still can't eat more than puddings & soup (broth only because you've gotta use your tongue to suck down noodles) without severe pain (and I'm no sissy). According to doctor, this is to be expected. By him, maybe, not me. Taking #10 Percocet but while I do experience a good hour of euphoria, it does little more than take the edge off the pain. Eating still painful & virtually impossible. I've found the rinse of baking soda/salt in icy water the best temporary help with the pain. I'm elated about how much this may help or, dare I say, "cure" my apnea but the constant, severe pain (especially 11 days post-op) is wearing, to say the least.
