I'd gotten a copy of a page from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Medical Policy Manual that says:

"It is the consensus of this Committee that the use of apnea appliances is considered ACCEPTED MEDICAL PRACTICE when all the following criteria are met:
. the patient has a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea (based on sleep study results) and
. the apnea appliance is being used as an alternative to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)"

My insurance considers it a durable supply and pays 80% of the cost.
