HELP!!! OSA and Hyperthyroidism......?

Posted by OSA-Jay on June 05, 2000 at 19:50:22:

The third and last ENT I visited was the only ENT to ask about the rate at which I gained the weight I did recently...despite a healthy diet and semi-regular workout routine.... I gained almost 60 lbs. in a year. He also asked me if I had a blood test to check my thyroid ever. I hadn't.

He said it was possible to have all of the same symptoms of OSA, but have it be caused by a thyroid problem. Or that hyperthyroidism could cause or lead to OSA (I'm confused here....)

What IS the possible connection here? Can a thyroid problem cause or lead to OSA? or does hyperthyroidism just make you feel like you have OSA because you feel like total HELL in the morning...? Does hyperthyroidism cause weight gain which leads to OSA..?

Is it important to get a second opinion from an endocrinologist even if the first test is negative? I heard that if you are borderline, it may not show up on the first test.....is this true?

And if this is what is causing my OSA, how do I treat it? Is it curable? or do I have to treat it forever? HELP!!!
