Posted by OSA-Jay on June 05, 2000 at 20:02:45:I have mild-moderate OSA, with my obstructive sites thought to be the nasal passages (deviated septum/turbinate hypertrophy), my tonsils (moderately large, and infected 5-6 times a year), and possibly my soft palate (hangs down)and semi-swollen uvula.
Not convinced of the success rate of the regular "cut-it-all-out" UPPP, I am having the septo/turbinoplasty done first, tonsillectomy next, and then will wait to see what improves.
My plan after recovery, is to work on weightloss, and try a new device: the OPAP (an oral version of the CPAP...no mask!). Then, if I still have OSA/snoring problems, I was going to try out the Somnoplasty....focusing on only my soft palate and uvula, since it has been said to me that my tongue isn't too big to be much of an obstruction.
Has anyone out there ever had the Somno to JUST their soft palate and uvula? or in addition to the other tissues?
What were your prior symptoms? your experience with surgery? your recovery time? your success afterward? any new symptoms or side-effects arise after you healed up? i heard it takes weeks for the tissue to shrink...is this true? how long ago did you have the procedure?
AND....did you have to go back to have it done a second or third time to reduce more of the tissue volume?
how many procedures did your insurance pay for? and what did you have to pay for?
any information would be GREATLY appreciated !!!
